SIEMENS has been awarded a contract to supply drives and automation systems to Ningbo Iron and Steel in China.
The client is building a two-stand rolling mill to manufacture metal plates of widths up to 4.3m. Siemens will provide Sinamics SM 150 DC link converters to drive the mill’s motors.
The system developer will also install process instruments and a material tracking structures. 
The project is expected to be completed by late 2009 and will allow the plant to handle up to 1.6m tonnes of iron and steel.
